MIDWEEK GATHERING IS CURRENTLY ON WINTER BREAK

AND RESUMES JANUARY 22, 2025

WHEN & WHERE

Wednesdays:  6:00 – 8:00 PM
Disciples Church: 4500 Rosedale Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93314

(See Sunday Service times at the bottom of this page.)

WHAT

Our Midweek Gathering is a time of fellowship, Bible teaching, group study/discussion, and prayer.

We begin with a bit of fellowship time, where we encourage all attendees to get to know one another and encourage one another in love and truth.

Then, we begin the Bible study lesson, which is the primary focus of the night. The Elders/teaching team teach a carefully prepared lesson from Scripture on a particular Bible passage or doctrine.

After the main teaching time, attendees (who have previously been set up with a group) split into gender-specific groups for further study, discussion, and prayer. The goal of this group time is to ensure biblical clarity and practical application for everyday life. Additionally, another goal of the group time is to foster deeper authentic relationships with others which becomes a catalyst for further discipleship that happens throughout the week.

WHO

Anyone can join us to fellowship and hear the Midweek lesson at any time. We encourage anyone looking to get plugged in to come participate with us!

WHY

Jesus wants us to abide in him. To ABIDE is to remain; to dwell, to continue, to act in accord with, to submit to.  We long to do this well by studying God’s word and pressing each other into Christ in all things.  Jesus says that we are the branches.  This is a plural reference to the body of Christ. In this, the church is to do life together in such a way that we deepen our roots into Christ, who is the Vine. Beyond the importance of corporate worship on Sunday mornings, we consider our Midweek Gathering to be a priority for the church body so that the fruit of the spirit is being produced in our lives and so that our joy in Him is complete.

Jesus said …  “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing… By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples… If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full”   – John 15
