COVID – 19: A Message From the Elders

Information regarding Coronavirus (Covid-19) is everywhere: local, national, and international news, the internet and social media as well as various health and governmental organizations. We recognize that things are changing daily, if not hourly, and that it is hard to know what to believe and/or how seriously to take the different perspectives and sound bites. We, elders, have dedicated many hours to discussion and to staying informed, with the goal of making biblically sound, God-honoring decisions during this time. Times like these afford us prime opportunities to exercise our faith in Jesus and to testify of the gospel.

We want to encourage you to stay calm, take things in stride, and trust that our sovereign God is at work and on the throne. Please do not get caught up in selfish hoarding of goods or resources. However, do take the time to inform yourself and make prudent decisions regarding basic needs and preparations for you and your family.

We continue to encourage you all to “walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7) and to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). We serve a mighty God who has given us “a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Even though we are separated from one another, it is important that we prioritize worshiping the Lord, sitting under our shepherd’s teaching and praying together.  Even in hard times, we want to continue to be the church, living for the King and loving our neighbors in the ways He has instructed us to do. Let’s be faithful in prayer and regular in God’s word.  “in your hears honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15).

In light of all that is happening, we have decided to suspend our physical gatherings on campus for Sunday services and Midweek Gathering until further notice. Currently, the church office remains open during the week. Even though we are not corporately meeting at this time, the Disciples Church shepherds, staff, and group leaders are committed to continuing to lead and serve you in the Lord.

Please continue to check our website for updates and/or resources. We will be broadcasting our Sunday worship services at 9:00 AM on our Disciples Church YouTube page. We will continue to send our church family updates via email. If you have any questions, please contact us via email or phone.

We are praying for our community, and for the world, in this unprecedented time and struggle. We trust that God is at work as He rules over all things in His perfect time and way. We pray that the gospel of our Lord Jesus shines brightly in this dark time and that many lives are forever changed by repenting of sin and trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

By His grace and for His glory,
The Elders of Disciples Church
